Driving in the car the other day, Jack says to me:
“I googled myself today.”
“Oh yeah,” I say, “What did you find?”
“Well, there are a lot of Jack Pughs out there. There was a mechanic and a personal trainer. There were lots of us. So, it got me thinking…what if all of these Jack Pugh’s were just past me’s reborn. What if there are tonnes of me’s out there?”
“What if the world was littered with Jack Pugh’s,” I reply.
“Exactly,” he said.
“Oh sweetie,” I said, “I think it’s safe to say there is only one you.”
Love my boy…

Jack says to me in the car today:
“You know what is amazing? For one tiny millisecond right after you are born, you are the youngest person in the whole world. How cool is that?”
Things I never would have thought about if he wasn’t mine…

Jack is a very philosophical kid….his little bits of wisdom come out of the blue and always…ALWAYS…blow us away.
Yesterday, while eating pizza for supper on Salt Spring Island, Jack grew quiet and thoughtful. Then, he said…out of the blue…
‘You know, I always see people worried about losing money, but they have it all wrong. They should be worried about losing time because you can always make back money, but once time is gone…it’s gone forever. People should be worried about what they’re doing with their time.’
Bob and I sat there with our jaws open. And, because my grief over losing my dad is still pretty raw, I was near to tears…then, just to prove to us that he is 9 years old, he added…
‘Maybe people think you can get time back once a time machine is invented BUT…you won’t actually get it back. Your timeline can’t change…you might be able to go back in time and relive or do over something but you can’t get time back. Even with a time machine.’
Love that kid…such an old soul

Last night, after Cubs, Bob was remarking to Jack that perhaps he could work on getting a few badges as he doesn’t really have very many. Jack very calmly replied the following:
You know…some kids are all about badges, but I don’t need them. I could open up that book(the cub book) and do the things they tell me to do, but I don’t need to. I don’t need badges or trophies to celebrate the mini-events in my life. I like my life as it is. Having more badges isn’t going to change that. My life is good right now.
How do you argue with that? Wow…my kids teach me things on a daily basis. I love this boy…
